Saraki Never Blamed Me For Eid Attack — Kwara Governor Ahmed

The Senate president Bukola Saraki never directed any grievances toward Abdulfatah Ahmed, the governor of Kwara state, for being subjected to physical abuse during Eid-el-Kabir celebrations in Ilorin on September 24.

The statement issued by Governor Ahmed’s media team quotes him as calling false, malicious and unfounded the earlier reports by Sahara Reporters that suggested the Ilorin incident had caused a rift between the two politicians.

At no time, the statement says, did Saraki accuse Governor Ahmed of leaving him vulnerable to attack by the miscreants at the Eid prayer ground.

The statement also says Saraki attended the Thursday’s venue not in defiance of any security reports, nor for the sake of publicity, but in fulfillment of their religious obligation.

Some protesters reportedly threw sachet water, stones and other objects at dignitaries, including Saraki, during the Sallah celebrations.

Saraki’s own media team has refuted the reports of him being attacked, offering, however, an explanation that a protest took place staged by a number of aggrieved workers over their unpaid salaries. The protest was not directed at the Senate president who is currently facing corruption charges and is to appear before court in October.

Recall that the embattled former governor of the state came out to debunk the rumour through his media office maintaining that he was never attacked nor was there any attempt made on his life to warrant him being ‘whisked away’ as reports claimed.
