Boko Haram insurgents raided a village of Ashir along Biu
road in Damboa Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State around 8:30pm
on Wednesday.
The militants reportedly invaded the remote villagein search for food and after snatching the required number of products set the entire village on fire. There are no reports about injuried or deceased at the moment.
Recalling the attack a local vigilante from Biu town, Abubakar Jojori said: ”They came on motorcycles around 8:30pm. As a local vigilante on duty saw them he quickly alerted the villagers. Everyone fled into the nearby bushes.
Boko Haram went away with two vehicles, some bicycles, goats, chickens as well as all the foodstuffs including salt. But we thank Allah nobody was killed. Only a few people sustained small injuries.”
Ashir village is about 5 kilometers away from Damboa which is 60 miles from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. Today Niger’s air force has carried out its biggest counter-offensive attack against insurgents in eight months, destroying their base and killing 20.
It would be recalled that in mid-2014 the militants gained control of swathes of territory in and around their home state of Borno, estimated at 50,000 square kilometres in January 2015, but did not capture the state capital, Maiduguri, where the group was originally based.
In September 2015, the Director of Information at the Defence Headquarters of Nigeria announced that all Boko Haram camps had been destroyed.
